The race across the Atlantic ocean involved 6 identical steel-hulled boats, each with a crew of 15, including a professional skipper and 1st mate. Most everyone was from the UK, with just a handful of Americans.
Fortunately, our team aboard BG Group bonded almost immediately, and though we had to share a mere 72 feet for almost 3 weeks, we all got along great! Working in 2 watches 24 hours a day, we got closest with those people on our watch.

Bruce's main duties were in the snake pit, where all the lines come down from the mast. Like all duties during the race, the job had to be done no matter what the weather conditions.

The frequent storms were almost always followed by a day of beautiful sunshine. If you didn't know it, you'd think we were sailing in the Caribbean!
